Cosplayer Of The Month Questions

What city are you based in?

Vancouver, BC.

Can you tell us about your first cosplay?

My friends and I attended San Diego Comic-Con for the first time in 2009. We wanted to go all out and dress up, so we decided to cosplay Cobra from the 80s GI Joe cartoon. I was the Baroness, and the rest is history!

Do you have a cosplay piece that you are most proud of?

Red Sonja hands down. That scale maille was very time-consuming but I got it to fit just right. I love how badass and durable that cosplay is. I’ve taken it everywhere from glaciers in Alaska, the tundra in the Yukon, to waterfalls in BC. And I’ve been featured on the cover of Red Sonja 8 times!

What do you hope to achieve through cosplay?

I hope to learn new skills and meet new people through my craft.

If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?

Cosplay characters you love and are passionate about. That passion will give you the drive and motivation to see your projects to the end.

Are there any local cosplayers that you look up to or inspire you?

I love hanging out with my friends from the Ghostbusters of BC. They’re always fun and have the most unique solutions for any costume issues that come up. They’re my go-to guys for anything zany and technical!

In honour of Mother’s Day, who would you consider your “cosplay mom”?

I don’t have one! Lol! I’ve been cosplaying so long I might be considered the “cosplay mom” at this point!
