Cosplayer Of The Month Questions
Can you tell us about your first cosplay?
My first official cosplay was a Velma cosplay from Scooby Doo way back in 2012. Thankfully those images never saw the light of day.
Do you have a cosplay piece that you are most proud of?
I’d say it was my entire Mina Ashido cosplay, I made practically everything for her from her horns down to her boots!
What do you hope to achieve through cosplay?
My favourite part of cosplaying is expanding my creative mindset. As well as reaching out to other creative minds! Seeing and meeting new people who share the same tastes is such a thrilling part of cosplaying. Especially when we make future plans or share tips with each other!
If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?
One part of cosplay that was very hard on me when I first began was my need to be 100% accurate. It limited me in almost everything I did. Accuracy in cosplay is always fun to pull off, but in my experience, the more you experiment the less judgement you hold for yourself! It allows your cosplay to be uniquely yours and to not take yourself too seriously.
What would you say is the hardest part of cosplaying?
Definitely prioritizing which cosplay to finish first. I make millions of cosplans throughout the year but have to limit myself to the important ones. In a perfect world I’d pull them out by the minute. However, with my job, school and life in general, some cosplans just have to be put off and that’s okay!
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, who is your cosplay crush?
Haha this is a tough answer. I’m not entirely sure who to pick in all honesty. There’s so much talent to be had in the cosplay community! I’m very lucky to have all the friends that I do, they inspire me all so much! But of course if I had to choose someone, I’d say my friend Lex (@Lexmayson) is up there. They’ve been an inspiration of mine since being active in the community. Being around them definitely makes me feel butterflies in my stomach haha!
