Cosplayer Of The Month Questions

What city are you based in?

I am based out of Toronto, but I have been working out of my native country for a year now while visiting my family.

How did you get into cosplay initially?

I used to LOVE Halloween when I was in University. I’d celebrate Monday to Sunday with funny costumes I’d put together the day of. Finally, I was invited to Toronto Comicon 2015 and was hooked immediately.

How did you get into TikTok?

I got into TikTok October of last year. A few friends of mine recommended the amazing reach and how fun the app was. It took me a little while to get into it, but once I did, it instantly became my favorite social network.

What would you say is the key to making a good TikTok?

I would say that the key to making a good TikTok is making it short, attention grabbing, and something you´re passionate about. Ultimately, you want to deliver value to your videos, a reason for people to watch your content.

What’s the cosplay community on TikTok like?

The cosplay community is very present on TikTok, though not as much as on Instagram. One thing I like about TikTok is a lot of the people that follow me are not cosplayers or part of the “geek” community. But they love the content and even start to consider going to cons or cosplaying after seeing my content and other cosplayers on TikTok.

Do you have a cosplay piece or video that you are most proud of?

I have a few videos that I’m proud of. One of my favourite TikToks is one where I recreated the “I want it that way” scene from Brooklyn 99, with each suspect being a different cosplay. I thought that one was creative!

Is there a fellow cosplay TikToker that you look up to or inspires you?

There are lots of incredibly talented TikTokers that I follow. I love @ethantrace, he does amazing impressions and has excellent content in general. I also love @coreynation, he does amazing Disney and gender-bend content. @Halcybella is also an amazing cosplayer and content creator. The list goes on!

If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?

I would say the biggest piece of advice is to not get caught up in trying to make “perfectly accurate” cosplays and to remember that we cosplay to have fun. It´s very easy to become obsessed with being the best and/or having the most expensive cosplay, or with having the most followers, etc. At the end of the day, we are all just kids at heart that love dressing up and bringing our favourite characters to life in our own way!
