Tell us a bit about yourself!

I was born and raised in South Florida and while I have lived in a couple of other states, I settled back in Florida to stay close to family. I currently work in the medical field but have also been in bank management and IT. I also have the most incredible dog!

What fandoms are you into?

I would say I am first and foremost a DC girl. It may have been because those are the first real superhero movies I watched as a child or it could be because my father, when he was younger, looked like Christopher Reeve when he played Clark Kent. Interestingly, his father looked like George Reeves! I also enjoy the fantasy genre to an obsessive degree but my cosplay tends to stay more comic/graphic novel over book based.

Can you tell us about your first cosplay?

My first cosplay was a bought Wonder Woman outfit. I had to have it custom made because I am so tall and the event that I had actually bought it for was not for a comic convention. While it didn’t arrive on time for the event, it did arrive in time for a comic convention normally held in Miami, so I decided to wear it there. Once there I had a very warm reception and my heart melted at the interactions with the kids. I think being 6ft tall had something to do with the incredible reception but I was very moved and inspired to start crafting my own cosplay.

Do you have a cosplay piece that you are most proud of?

This is a very hard question for me to answer but I may still be the most proud of my first full build. I created a Wonder Woman armor in white and silver and added blue EL wire to it. It was created for a Florida holiday themed convention. I called her Winter Wonder-land. I did have a friend help with patterning the bust piece but all the rest of the build, including the concept was mine. It took a lot of determination, and multiple attempts to get it the way I wanted, so I am proud not just for the look of the outfit but also that I completed the build and got to see my concept come to life.

What do you hope to achieve through cosplay?

It would be incredible to be an inspiration to others. I think that would be the end goal. But for now I simply hope to continue to learn new skills and make amazing friends.

If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?

Be fearless! Cosplay is not easy for everyone. It can be very challenging, very frustrating and very rewarding. I think anyone that does cosplay is incredible.
