STRANGER THINGS: THE FINAL SEASON

Enter the Upside Down One Last Time

After nearly a decade of Demogorgons, D&D, and danger, Stranger Things is preparing for its epic conclusion. The final season will be split into two parts and a finale episode; Part 1 premieres November 26, Part 2 on Christmas Day (December 25), and the finale on New Years Eve (December 31). As Hawkins braces for its last stand, it’s time to revisit the heroes, villains, and unforgettable faces that defined the series. Grab your waffles and let’s dive into the world of Stranger Things.

Dustin Henderson

Season 2, Episode 3

I am on a curiosity voyage and I need my paddles to travel.

Ties to Dungeons and Dragons

It’s no secret that the iconic Wizards of the Coast game Dungeons & Dragons is heavily tied into Stranger Things. Besides the actual gameplay in the series, many of the monsters the kids call come straight out of the game like Vecna, Mind Flayer, and Demogorgon. If you rewatch the series, there are more D&D Easter eggs scattered all throughout it.

The Party: Hawkins’ Original Heroes

From the very first campaign, these kids brought heart, humor, and heroics to Hawkins. What started as a basement D&D group became the world’s last line of defense against the Upside Down.

Eleven / Jane Hopper

Once a test subject, now a hero who’s saved Hawkins more than once. Eleven’s journey from isolation to identity defines Stranger Things. In D&D, she’s the party’s wild card: pure power wrapped in humanity.

Played by Millie Bobby Brown, she's well known for her roles in Enola Holmes, Godzilla vs. Kong, and Damsel.

Mike Wheeler

The heart of the group and Eleven’s biggest supporter, Mike started as a dungeon master and became the group’s moral compass. In D&D, he often led with strategy and stubborn hope.

Played by Finn Wolfhard, who you might also know from his starring roles in It and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Dustin Henderson

Genius-level energy with unmatched enthusiasm, Dustin is the brains and the comic relief. His loyalty to his friends, and his hair, are unmatched. In D&D, he’s the bard with endless charm.

He's played by Gaten Matarazzo, who you've seen in shows like Prank Encounters and Honor Society, and in Broadway revival hits like Sweeney Todd.

Lucas Sinclair

Level-headed and brave, Lucas balances skepticism with courage. He’s the realist who always shows up when it counts. In D&D, he’s the ranger: precise, practical, and fiercely protective.

He's played by Caleb McLaughlin, also known for Shooting Stars, Concrete Cowboy, and The New Edition Story.

Will Byers

The boy who started it all. Sensitive and intuitive, Will’s connection to the Upside Down runs deep. In D&D, he’s the wizard: both haunted and gifted by his experiences.

Played by Noah Schnapp, who you might know from his roles in Abe, Hubie Halloween, and Bridge of Spies.

Max Mayfield

The fearless skater girl who carved her place in The Party, Max faced Vecna’s horrors head-on and proved her strength through resilience. In D&D, she’s the rogue: agile, bold, and unpredictable.

Played by Sadie Sink, who's well-known for starring roles in The Whale, Fear Street, and Taylor Swift’s All Too Well: The Short Film.

The Party’s Companions: Erica Sinclair & Holly Wheeler

Every hero needs backup. These younger siblings might not always join the fight, but they’re part of the heartbeat of Hawkins.

Erica’s wit and confidence make her a pint-sized powerhouse. She's the kind of player who steals the spotlight mid-campaign. Holly, though younger, represents the innocence Hawkins fights to protect.

Erica is played by Priah Ferguson, known for The Curse of Bridge Hollow and Perfect Find, and Holly is played by Anniston Price, known for Tell Me Your Secrets and The Resident.

Eleven

Season 1, Episode 2

Friends don’t lie.

The Teens of Hawkins: Fighting the Good Fight

While the kids battle monsters, the teens tackle everything from heartbreak to heroism...and occasionally the Upside Down, too.

Nancy Wheeler

Driven and determined, Nancy evolved from small-town student to fearless investigator. She’s as deadly with a shotgun as she is with a headline.

Played by Natalia Dyer, who's known for: Yes, God, Yes, Velvet Buzzsaw, and Chestnut.

Jonathan Byers

Quiet, loyal, and creative, Jonathan is the steady hand in chaos. His camera lens sees truth when others look away.

Played by Charlie Heaton, also known for The New Mutants, As You Are, and Shut In.

Steve Harrington

Once the high school heartthrob, now the team’s unofficial babysitter and monster hunter. Steve’s growth from jerk to hero is pure fan-favorite material.

Played by Joe Keery, also known for Free Guy, Spree, and Fargo.

Robin Buckley

Witty, brave, and unflinchingly honest, Robin’s intellect and heart make her indispensable. She's a D&D cleric in spirit and heals others with humor.

Played by Maya Hawke, who's well-known for her roles in Asteroid City, Do Revenge, and Fear Street: 1994.

Argyle

With good vibes and even better pizza, Argyle became the unexpected MVP of Season 4. He's the comic relief with a kind soul, and surprisingly clutch driving skills.

Played by Eduardo Franco, who you might know from Booksmart, The Package, or The Binge.

The Adults: Guardians of Hawkins

They’ve seen things no parent or cop ever should, and yet, they keep fighting. Whether rescuing their kids or battling Russians, they’re the backbone of Hawkins’ survival.

Joyce Byers

From frantic mother to full-blown hero, Joyce’s courage and intuition have saved lives, including Hopper’s.

She's played by the iconic Winona Ryder, who you all know from Beetlejuice, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, and so much more.

Jim Hopper

The once-broken sheriff turned warrior. Hopper’s grit and heart define Hawkins’ spirit. Plus, his reunion with Eleven remains one of the series’ best payoffs.

He's played by the charismatic David Harbour; you've seen him in Thunderbolts*, Violent Night, Hellboy, and so many more of your faves.

Murray Bauman

Conspiracy theorist turned truth-teller, Murray’s sarcasm and smarts make him the secret weapon of the older crew.

He's played by Brett Gelman, who you've probably seen in Fleabag, Lemon, and Without Remorse.

Dmitri “Enzo” Antonov

A former Russian guard with a conscience, Enzo became an unexpected ally. His loyalty proves redemption is possible, even in the bleakest places.

He's played by Tom Wlaschiha, who's known for fandom faves like Game of Thrones and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan.

Yuri Ismaylov

Smuggler, schemer, and part-time pilot, Yuri’s chaotic energy keeps everyone guessing whose side he’s really on.

He's played by Nikola Đuričko, he's known for his roles in Worlds Apart, In the Land of Blood and Honey, and Legends.

Dr. Sam Owens

Dr. Brenner's replacement came in the form of a morally gray scientist who tried to protect Eleven, and maybe humanity. Unlike his predecessor, Owens shows empathy, and even tries to help Eleven and the boys close the gate, becoming Eleven's government ally.

Played by Paul Reiser, who you know from faves like Aliens, Mad About You, and The Boys.

A Father's Lament: Victor Creel

Once a father broken by tragedy, guilt, and remorse, he's later revealed as a key to understanding Vecna’s origins, as well as an 'innocent' man. His haunting presence helped reshaped Hawkins’ history.

Played by the legendary Robert Englund, you know the horror icon from A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Mangler, Urban Legend, and more.

Jim Hopper

Season 1, Episode 2

Mornings are for coffee and contemplation.

The Shadows of the Upside Down

For every hero, there’s something lurking below, and these villains define Stranger Things’ nightmare fuel.

Vecna / Henry Creel

Twisted, brilliant, and terrifyingly human, Vecna’s story redefined evil in Hawkins. He's the overarching big bad of the series, starting off as the psychically-inclined young Henry Creel. His violent powers lead to his father being wrongfully charged with murdering his family, while Henry became test subject "001" for Dr. Brenner. His evolution to Vecna is credited to Eleven blasting him through a dimensional rift, completing his villain origin story.

In D&D, Vecna is a lich. For those who don't play, that's a powerful, undead wizard who becomes a god of secrets and necromancy.

This baddie is played by Jamie Campbell Bower, who's known for The Mortal Instruments, Sweeney Todd, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, and more.

The Mind Flayer

Aa a being of pure malice, the Mind Flayer is the ultimate hive-mind puppet master behind the Upside Down’s horrors. It's never seen in human form, but always felt, especially when it possesses Will in Season 2. When it makes an appearance in Season 3, you see it manifest as the Flesh Flayer, aka a culmination of humans and rats all mashed together.

In D&D, Mind Flayers are called Illithids (think Baldur's Gate 3 and it's Emperor/tadpoles). They're hive-mind, psychic monsters that use telepathy like Vecna.

The Demogorgon

The Demogorgon is the monster that started it all: a symbol of the chaos waiting just beneath Hawkins’ surface. It's the first big bad we see, the main villain of Season 1 that abducts Will and takes out Hawkins' residents. It boasts a flower-shaped, five-petal mouth full of terrifying teeth, like perfect nightmare fuel.

In D&D, the Demogorgon is the Prince of Demons. It's a two-headed, tentacled Demon lord. Not quite the same as the monster we see in Hawkins, but it gets this nickname from The Party as they connect it's monstrous power to the character.

D’Artagnan (“Dart”)

Perfectly ad-horror-ble (adorable, but make it horror). Dustin’s short-lived pet turned Demodog: cute, deadly, and unforgettable. He names it Dart after the Musketeer character, hoping for the best of this malevolent being. Turns out Dart was just a baby Demogorgon, earning the 'Demodog' name as it gets bigger.

Though there's nothing specifically like this in the world of D&D, Dart is the on-screen equivalent of a monster companion to Dustin. Think Baldur's Gate 3 again, like the adorable yet powerful Owlbear.

The Man Behind the Madness: Dr. Martin Brenner

He is the man behind the madness, architect of Eleven’s pain, and the shadow behind the lab. Brenner’s manipulative brilliance shaped nearly every tragedy in Hawkins.

He's played by Matthew Modine, who's known for fan faves like Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight Rises, and Oppenheimer.

Vecna

Season 4, Episode 9

You can’t stop this now.

Gone, But Never Forgotten

Hawkins has lost some of its best, but their bravery lives on.

Eddie Munson

The misunderstood metalhead DM who went out a hero. An unfortunate scapegoat for Hawkins' 'Satanic Panic' hysteria around Chrissy's death, he's a a caring, fearless leader who goes out in a blazing glory to protect the Party, distracting the Demobats to save his friends.

He's played by fan-fave Joseph Quinn, who we've all seen in Gladiator II and Game of Thrones, and heard in The Lord of the Rings: The War of Rohirrim.

Chrissy Cunningham

The cheerleader whose death set the horror in motion. Would saving the cheerleader have saved the world? She was the popular head cheerleader masking her trauma with a smile. Her death-by-Vecna in Eddie's trailer sparks his witch hunt.

Chrissy is played by Grace Van Dien, who you may know from her Twitch streams, or roles in Greenhouse Academy, The Village, and What Comes Around.

Billy Hargrove

Max's step-brother had a charismatic flair to most, but became a volatile bully, haunted by trauma behind closed doors. He's the redeemed rebel who sacrificed himself to save his sister and Eleven, going from Mind Flayer host to martyr in the brief moments he regains control over himself in the end.

He's played by Dacre Montgomery, who you might have seen in Power Rangers, The Broken Hearts Gallery, and A Few Less Men.

Barbara “Barb” Holland

The fandom’s original justice crusade. Barb is victim #1 of the Demogorgon, and was Nancy's best friend. Her disappearance is the crutch of Nancy's character development, and even sparked the fan movement, "Justice for Barb".

She's played by Shannon Purser, who may look familiar from Riverdale or Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

Bob Newby

The everyman hero who deserved better. Bob was Joyce's boyfriend in Season 2, and a genuinely good man who loved puzzles and helping the kids out. He even decoded Will's map of the Upside Down, ultimately meeting his demise after saving the group from Demodogs in the lab.

He's played by the iconic Sean Astin, and you know you've seen him in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Goonies, and Rudy. He's also recently been voted in as the President of SAG-AFTRA, an everyman hero on-screen and IRL.

Eddie Munson
