The FHQ

Boba Fett has managed to appear in a whole roster of Star Wars content, spanning the Originals, the Prequels, the Star Wars Holiday Special, the animated The Clone Wars series, The Mandalorian, and most recently, The Book of Boba Fett. With all these titles under his belt, we thought it was time for a refresher on this iconic character’s backstory. Join us for a Deep Dive on the history of this simple man: Boba Fett.

Editor Note: The content covered will be for Boba’s on-screen appearances and will not cover any written content such as comics or novels.

ATTACK OF THE CLONES

Actor: Daniel Logan

While it’s not his first on-screen appearance, the prequels are where we see Boba’s story begin. We meet Jango Fett, the perfect specimen chosen to be genetically cloned to create The Galactic Republic’s Clone Army. Jango’s agreed to be cloned and had a request: create one clone unaltered that he can raise as a son. This is how Alpha enters the world, later renamed Boba. Sadly, Mace Windu kills Jango Fett on Geonosis, leaving Boba without his father figure.

It’s worth noting that Temuera Morrison plays Jango Fett in this film, as he would later take on the role of adult Boba in future projects.

THE CLONE WARS

Voice Actor: Daniel Logan

With the series taking place after the tragedy of Boba’s dad dying in Episode 2, it’s only natural that his appearances in the show are him as a disgruntled angry child. In ‘Death Trap’, we see Boba sneak onto a ship that Mace Windu is on and attempt to bomb him in his quarters. It fails, and the ship ends up crashing because of Boba. Later, Boba plants a bomb in the wreckage of the crashed him, which again fails to hurt Windu and Boba later ends up in prison. In a future arc, we see young Boba, who recently escaped from prison, form a bounty hunter syndicate called Krayt’s Claw with Bossk and Dengar, who also appear with Boba in the Original Trilogy.

STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL

Voice Actor: Don Francks

Boba Fett has lots of ‘firsts’ throughout his journey. This is the actual honest first time Boba was ever seen by the world on-screen. In an animated appearance in 1978 (2 years before his theatrical appearance and set between Episode 4 & 5), Boba Fett arrives to help a stranded Luke Skywalker, who was chasing Chewbacca and Han Solo after a mission gone wrong. It’s later revealed that Boba was only helping as part of an elaborate plan with Darth Vader to locate the secret Rebel base. The animated segment in this live-action special is widely regarded as the best part of the entire special, so it makes sense that the only new character from this animated short would eventually be in the films.

ORIGINAL TRILOGY

Actor: Jeremy Bulloch
Voice: Jason Wingreen

This is where the love for Boba originally came from and marked his first major presence in the Star Wars universe. We first see Boba as one of the bounty hunters hired by Vader to track down the Millennium Falcon crew. Boba succeeds, and alerts Vader to their location. Boba later takes a carbon frozen Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt in order to collect the reward on Solo. After Hans friends get caught staging a rescue, Boba travels to watch their execution. When it doesn’t go as planned, Boba fights Luke Skywalker and has his rocket pack activated accidently by Han Solo (still recovering from un-carbon freezing). The rocket pack sends Boba flying to his death in the Sarlacc Pitt.

RIP Boba Fett.

THE MANDALORIAN

Actor: Temuera Morrison

With an entire show about a Mandalorian, it made perfect sense that our fav Fake Mando would have a role to play. We get Boba teased in Season 1 when a mysterious figure shows up to help Fennec Shand. Season 2 includes a much bigger role for Boba (who is revealed to have survived his apparent death in Return of the Jedi), including great scenes like Boba getting back his infamous armor from Din Djarin, revealing that he saved Fennec’s life and they are now partners, helping Mando rescue Grogu, and most notably, killing Bib Fortuna in a post-credit scene that revealed…

THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT

Actor: Temuera Morrison

After the post-credit events of The Mandalorian Season 2, we knew Boba was getting his own show. With this Bounty Hunter taking the starring role, we can finally get more content from him. The show only premiered two weeks ago so we don’t want to give anything away. Let’s just say – it’s amazing. We’re expecting a BIG season finale.
