With the CALGARY EXPO Adult Reading Challenge well underway, we've been inspired to read more on our own. Our team here at FAN EXPO HQ thought it would be fun to share the very diverse range of books that we've been reading lately. If you're looking for something new, let us be your inspiration.
"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.”- George R.R. Martin

THE CHALK MAN
Selected by: Emily, Project Manager
The concept of the book is really cool. It's essentially how something as innocent as a chalk drawing can turn into this dark symbol directing the main kids towards a murder scene and their life gets turned upside down because of it. I like that it plays on our childhood fun. I'm a sucker for anything relatable (in a sense).
THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE
Selected by: Marcus, Social Coordinator
I'm currently re-reading the Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. It's a classic Gothic horror novella that even scared Stephen King himself! It's just so digestible as a horror novel and it does a really great job at outlining deep character development throughout the story.

A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES
Selected by: Fiona, Show Manager
I love a good fantasy/ romance book and well, this series is SPICY… Rhysand, swoon!! I just finished binge reading the first four books and I’m excited to see what the latest has to offer. I wish I had a secret/spelled cabin that made my bed, did the dishes, folded my laundry (I’m jealous).

DIRT
Selected by: Emily, Operations Coordinator
It combines my love of French food, cooking, and travel. Makes me want to go back to visit Lyon. Which, in some respects, I find better than visiting Paris (controversial opinion!). As a culinary school graduate, I love stories that involve a food journey as a focal point.
THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO
Selected by: Mercy, Digital Marketing Manager
I could go on and on about it.... It's a page turning book. In summary , the way they describe the characters, you either hate them or love them'. Also the fact that ''the girl'' is out of her depth and underestimated, which makes her life as an investigator easier in some ways, is so interesting. The moral of the story is don't judge a book by its cover.

ONE LAST STOP
Selected by: Quinn, Social Coordinator
Tt's a hilarious queer romance that also happens to involve time travel, psychics, a mysterious and magical diner. It's hard to stress just how funny this book is? But it really truly is. This is the second book from this author, who also wrote Red, White, and Blue, which is also excellent and benefits from the same clever plot twists and funny, natural voice and dialogue.
