THE FAN EXPO CELVELAND LIVE UPCYCLE COSPLAY CHALLENGE
Ready to show off your cosplay skills and help promote saving the planet? FAN EXPO Cleveland has teamed up with Cuyahoga County Recycles to bring you the Upcycle Cosplay Challenge!
What is it?
A live crafting challenge! Participants will have 1.25 hours to use the materials provided to create a prop or costume piece of their choice. Our team of judges will then select their picks for first and second place.
All pieces will go on display in the Cosplay Corner of the show for fans to select their favorite for an additional cash prize!
When is it?
Sunday March 26th. The crafting portion will take place at 11:00am – 12:15pm in Room 20. Pieces will go on display on the show floor from 1:00pm to 3:30pm. Contestants can pick up their pieces starting at 3:45pm.
The prizes
1st Prize – $150 and two 3-Day badges to FAN EXPO Cleveland 2024
2nd Prize – $75 and two 3-Day badges to FAN EXPO Cleveland 2024
Fan Favorite – two 2-Day badges to FAN EXPO Cleveland 2024
Materials
Alongside provided recycled materials contestants will also have access to glue, safety pins, sewing kits, scissors, and tape to use to complete their piece.
Contestants are welcome to bring additional materials such as additional fabric, EVA Foam, Sculpting clay, wire or plastic supports – provided that they make up no more than 50% of the finished piece.
Rules and Regulations
1. Contestants must register in advance online for the competition.
2. Contestants must have a valid ticket for Sunday March 26th 2023 in order to compete.
3. Contest is open to those 13 years of age or older.
4. Contestants must use the recycled material provided to make at least 50% of their finished piece.
5. Contestants may bring additional materials and/or support structures to aid in the construction of their piece. Any pre-fabricated support structure or materials must be the work of the competitor and must make up no more than 50% of the finished piece. Contestants who are found to be in violation of this will be disqualified from the contest. This decision is final and may not be appealed.
6. FAN EXPO reserves the right to disallow any contestants on basis of appropriateness of the prop or costume piece. FAN EXPO Cleveland is a family friendly convention. Items that are deemed to be racist, obscene, derogatory, or otherwise inappropriate will not be allowed to compete. Items with hate symbolism such as swastikas, KKK hoods etc will not be allowed to compete. FAN EXPO HQ staff has the final say on all entries. This decision is final and may not be appealed.
