Team Picks: What Are You Reading?
Here at FAN EXPO HQ, our team is always nerding out over the world of fandom. On Team Picks, we share some of our favourite things we’ve been watching, reading, and playing. This month, we’ll be going through what our team have been reading.
While it’s always fun to watch a movie or play games, sometimes the right book can be just as good, if not better. From high fantasy to horror and from novels to manga, there’s bound to be a great read out there for anyone.
COMICS
Kevin
Comic Relations Coordinator
I read a lot of comics every month, but my current favorites are Once & Future by Kieron Gillen and Dan Mora (Boom!), Nightwing by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo (DC Comics), Reckless by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips (Image Comics), and Hulk by Donny Cates and Ryan Ottley (Marvel Comics).
PET SEMATARY
Caro
Marketing Coordinator
I'm currently reading Pet Sematary by Stephen King! Stephen King is one of my favourite authors of all time and this is one of the few books I haven't read of his. It's really scary (no surprise there) but I'm enjoying it!
PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS
Miguel
Marketing Coordinator
This month, I’m going through the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan! They were my favourites when I was younger, so it’s cool to go through them now that I’m older. They still hold up well, so if you haven’t read them, I would 100% recommend it. And there’s a Disney+ adaptation coming out for it in the future, too.
GRANDMASTER OF DEMONIC CULTIVATION
Ansley
Programming Coordinator
A while ago a friend asked me if I’d watch The Untamed yet... one binge watch later and now I’m cracking open the official English translation of the source material! This is my first foray into Xianxia and I’m so far, I’m having so much fun. Who doesn’t love a good Night Hunt?
THE SILENT PATIENT
Allen
Graphic Designer
I just recently finished reading The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. It’s a thriller novel that explores a mentally ill patient accused of murder and her psychiatrist. The overall plot was great, but the only thing is I wish they explored deeper into the side characters. Anyways, I'm a sucker for thriller/horror books.
CHAINSAW MAN
Ella
Marketing Coordinator
This month, I've been reading Chainsaw Man! While the premise is absolutely absurd (guy who can turn into a living, demon-hunting chainsaw), the characters are so relatable you just want to root for them. I love seeing actual character growth, and Chainsaw Man has a great, dynamic cast. Did I mention there's a dog with a mini chainsaw for a nose?
