CHRISTOPHER MINTZ-PLASSE

Dragons, Superheroes, McLovin, Oh My!

It’s the age of dragons. 15 years ago, the animated film How to Train Your Dragon made its franchise debut. This month the new live action reimagining is premiering. It’s time to look at the career of the voice behind the original Fishlegs Ingerman, Christopher Mintz-Plasse.

How to Train Your Dragon

From the first film to the sequels to the TV series, Christopher Mintz-Plasse has been the voice behind Fishlegs Ingerman, the resident dragon nerd of Berk and Hiccup's closest friend. Fishlegs is like a walking encyclopedia of dragons that shares stats and facts committed to memory from the Dragon Manual. His character throughout the How to Train Your Dragon franchise provides comic relief and valuable dragon expertise. Through Fishlegs’ partnership with his dragon Meatlug, a Gronckle, helps him overcome his fears and grow more confident during the movies and TV show.

Superbad

At 17 years old, Christopher Mintz-Plasse debuted in his first film role as Fogell in Superbad. Better known by his fake ID name "McLovin", the awkward yet confident Fogell/McLovin became an instant cultural phenomenon and launched Mintz-Plasse's acting career. Fogell/McLovin's attempts to buy alcohol with a clearly fake Hawaiian driver's license, along with his misadventures with two incompetent police officers, provided some of the movie's most iconic and hilarious moments.

Kick-Ass

Christopher Mintz-Plasse portrays Chris D'Amico, in the 2010 dark superhero comedy Kick-Ass, *SPOILERS* who later becomes the supervillain Red Mist. The son of mob boss, Frank D'Amico, Chris D'Amico initially pretends to be a superhero to help his father trap and kill Kick-Ass. Mintz-Plasse does a great job portraying Chris D'Amico's transformation from a privileged, lonely teenager seeking his father's approval to a vengeful antagonist. His performance as Red Mist balances on complexity and dark humor, serving as a perfect foil to Aaron Taylor-Johnson's Kick-Ass.
