FAN MEETUPS RECAP: Cosplay Conversation with Megan Jane
Written By Elizabeth Smock (Fan Meetups Ambassador, Orlando Chapter)
On February 16th, our Cosplay Makerspace was lucky enough to host Megan Jane (@meganjaneart) to talk all things cosplay. The Q&A was lively and we learned that Megan really loves cosplaying MJ from Spider-Man (see the name? Want to guess why she loves MJ?). She talked about how new cosplayers can easily buy an inexpensive (even cheap) costume and make fairly simple upgrades, like she did with a store-bought Wonder Woman costume, so no one has to worry about building a huge budget before starting out. Finally, all cosplayers have a character they are dying to cosplay, and Megan shared that she's always wanted to cosplay Megara from Hercules. She's make a great Meg, and some of us in the meetup suggested maybe a full-on Hercules group would be awesome for a con or for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom, here in Orlando. We all shared stories, enjoyed Megan's tips, and had a wonderful time. We hope you can join one of our makerspaces or other events soon!
Don't miss our next event with Prop Maker, Stefan Price! Stefan will be discussing various props he's built for Disney, Universal, and the WWE, including Harry Potter and Star Wars. He'll also show other items he's designed and built such as a wrist crossbow and a life-sized elephant puppet/costume, and will discuss how to incorporate laser cutting, 3D printing, and CNC into traditional fabrication. RSVP here.
