Cosplayer Of The Month Questions
What city are you based in?
I am based in Edmonton, AB.
Can you tell us about your first cosplay?
I started cosplaying when I still lived in the Philippines, approximately seven years ago. I cosplayed Hong Kong from Hetalia: Axis Powers. I did stop for a few years until I moved to Canada and got a job.
Do you have a cosplay piece that you are most proud of?
I’m very proud of my Morning Star prop for Rem! Although it doesn't sound tough to make, it was my first time making a prop. I burnt my hand a bit but it was all worth it. Please be careful with hot glue!
What do you hope to achieve through cosplay?
Cosplay is something that brings me a lot of joy and I do this for fun. I’m working to further enhance my prop making and sewing skills. I’m hopeful that someday I can make a living off of my art and cosplay so that I can spend more time doing what I love.
Is there a local cosplayer that you look up to or inspires you?
Every cosplayer is an inspiration! How people interpret cosplay in their own style always amazes me and encourages me to improve my own cosplays as well.
If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?
If you want to cosplay, go for it! No hesitation! You don't have to have a fancy costume or a wig to cosplay. There’s no right or wrong way to cosplay because it should be your own interpretation of that character and most importantly, what you’re comfortable doing. Ever since I started cosplaying I’ve been a lot happier and confident in myself! I’ve met so many amazing people and friends with whom I can weeb out, haha!
Do you have any “Cosplans” for 2021?
I'm planning to cosplay several characters from Genshin Impact such as Xiangling, Klee and Kequing. Also, Emilia from Re: Zero and Ninny from Burn the Witch. There are many more but these are the ones I’ve settled on doing first.
