Cosplayer Of The Month - Ellipses Cosplay

Welcome to Cosplayer of the Month, where we feature an incredible cosplayer from our community of fans and learn about who they are beneath the surface and, ahem, WORBLA. This month, we have Ellipses Cosplay!

Follow Ellipses Cosplay to stay connected:

Cosplayer Of The Month Questions

Can you tell us about your first cosplay?

Under our name Ellipses, our first cosplay was our armoured Pokémon trio! We did armoured versions of Blastoise, Charizard, and Venusaur.

We came up with the concept while playing Destiny one night, and each drew up our own concept art for our creations. It was our first time using WORBLA to create armour, so it was a fun challenge and a great learning experience.

Do you have a cosplay piece that you are most proud of?

Our most recent cosplay, the summons from Final Fantasy, “Ifrit, Ramuh, and Shiva.” There were so many new techniques we learned to pull together this ambitious idea. Over 300 LEDs, 20 metres of fabric, and a full-body paint later, we were so thrilled with the results!

What do you hope to achieve through cosplay?

Connection with our fellow cosplayers and creatives, other fans of the genre’s we represent, and with each other. Living so far apart, cosplay is something the three of us constantly bond over and can still spend time doing together.

Is there a cosplayer that you look up to or inspires you?

It sounds cheesy to say, but we truly find inspiration in every cosplayer we meet! Everyone has their own special style and brings something unique to their creations. We love learning from everyone we get a chance to talk to.

If we had to pick one specific cosplayer, it would have to be the incredible Kamui. She’s given back so much to the community, sharing videos, tutorials, and tips, and we’ve all learned many skills from her books. (Buy her books!).

If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?

Embrace and immerse yourself in the community! We’ve never met a single cosplayer who isn’t interested in sharing how they made their creations or answering any questions we’ve had. Reach out to that person whose cosplay you admire, ask a pro cosplayer how they styled that wig or made their armour, and share your own progress so the community can reach back out to you, too.

And buy a good heat gun :)

What would you say is the hardest part of cosplaying?

Well, that’s an easy one… time management! Hoo boy, we’re old pros at pulling all-nighters before a con just to finish our cosplays. If you’re interested in cosplay, there’s a reason you’ve almost certainly heard the term, “con crunch”.

What are you looking forward to next year?

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone we know and we’re sure you can relate too! After taking a bit of a break from making new cosplays this year as we dealt with real-life struggles, we can’t wait to get back to creating new content for our followers in the New Year! We have concept sketches for the next project ready to go and can’t wait to get started.

Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?

We’re going to resolve to work on having the willpower to stick to resolutions!
