Cosplayer Of The Month - YYC Princess

Welcome to Cosplayer of the Month, where we feature an incredible cosplayer from our community of fans and learn about who they are beneath the surface and, ahem, WORBLA. This month, we have YYC Princess!

Cosplayer Of The Month Questions

What city are you based in?

Calgary, Alberta.

Can you tell us about your first cosplay?

My first two princess cosplays were Anna from Frozen and Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I relate most to Anna in terms of having the desire to do so much more in life and Belle was my favourite princess growing up! Anyways, after discovering an entire world online devoted to cosplays, I put in a bigger investment with every upgrade. Now, I run Calgary’s most successful princess party company!

Do you have a cosplay piece that you are most proud of?

I love all my gowns but it's still Anna through and through! Her story and mine through both Frozen movies aligned so perfectly with who I am and what we’ve achieved over the last six years. My best friend cosplays with me as Elsa, so I would say our Anna and Elsa team is my absolute favourite.

What do you hope to achieve through cosplay?

Making magic in other people's lives. For charity, I cosplay around the city and that has changed my life. Working with children and playing a character that they so look up to is a responsibility that I do not take lightly. I hope to continue to inspire young minds with imagination, creativity and play! I hope to continue to hire cosplayers of colour so that more children will be represented in their favourite characters!

Is there a cosplayer that you look up to or inspires you?

I love @LILY_ON_THE_MOON and @NIKITACOSPLAY, they are incredible.

If you could give any piece of advice to new cosplayers, what would it be?

Spend money on good wigs because they can make or break the cosplay. I have become an incredible wig restyler and am hoping to open a side hustle doing wigs for Canadian princesses!

What would you say is the hardest part of cosplaying?

Driving in hoop skirts because it never gets easier! That and the tension between my fiancé and I when trying to get the perfect cosplay shot. [Laughs]

Is there a cosplay piece you’re currently working on?

Next up, I am hoping to do a Step Sister cosplay with my best friend @saraamber2 and next Halloween we're going to nail the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus! But my biggest dream is tackling the Thumbelina wig and doing an epic Thumbelina cosplay!!
